  1. Hello all … some of you (Kelly, Alice, and Jane, at the least) may remember me from my gentle yoga classes I taught (and other programs I attended) when WCW had space just at the western edge of Milford. I think I was even a co-signer on the initial lease.

I was THRILLED to see names I remembered and the website looking so FINE!

Due to my own health problems, and the aging of my parents and their increasing needs for assistance, I moved to Florida five years ago last Father’s Day. I grew up in Miami, so it’s kind of deja vu, even though I’m 3 hours north of where I went to high school. It’s been a rough half-decade, and I’m finally feeling like I’m regaining my balance.

As a result, not for the first time, it occurred to me I should research the possibility of establishing a sister group in this area (I know the Milford organ. is itself a spin-off sister). “This area” is on what’s known as the state’s “Treasure Coast,” stretching across three east-coast counties. I now live in the middle of the three, St. Lucie County, on the western side of Port St. Lucie (don’t let the “Port” fool ya … nearest beach is miles and miles away!).

There is a fairly good-sized wellness community throughout BUT it’s very spread out; population density here is much different than in the NE (which I miss terribly, especially at this time of year). On the plus side, there are quite a few potential places in which to hold programs (yoga studios, a Buddhist-oriented meeting center, Unity churches, all kinds of service organization halls, etc.).

I’m going to sign up to get the newsletter again, and ask that one of you “grand poo-bahs” drop me a note when it’s convenient. Perhaps a conference call will be in order at some point for any serious discussion of a new group … otherwise, it can just be a “howdy.”

I miss the Center dearly, and the wonderful women who ARE the WCW. In appreciation and kindness, Kacie

  2. Hi Kacie,
Sorry it’s taken so long to get back to you. Good to hear from you and find you warm in Florida! So sorry to hear about your challenges. Our thoughts are with you. Everything at WCW is peer leader-based, so that would be your first step. Did you take peer leader training all those years ago? I seem to remember that you did? The WCW Board of Directors will think about your proposal of extending South when they meet in the spring. Our newsletter is all email-based now, so if you send us your email (reach WCW through info@womenscenterforwellness.org), we’ll put you on the monthly e-news distribution. Thanks for reaching out and be well.
