Testimonials & Women’s Wisdom

We have all heard the saying that when a pupil is ready, the teacher will appear and that’s how the Women’s Center for Wellness came into my life. After years of working at clearing clutter from my life — old emotional baggage — I was becoming interesting in developing my spirituality when I saw an ad for a writer’s group and a Tai Chi group in my local paper. I called right away to register and was sent a newsletter, along wtih a warm invitation to come to Celebrating Women. Two Celebrating Women, two Women’s Weekends and many groups later including the most recent Peer Leadership Group, I am so glad I did.

Walking into the Unitarian Universalist Church in Milford early last December, I was treated to the sight of a large golden angel flanked by yards of draped material and two tall, clear glass cylinders filled with water. I knew right away that I was about to enjoy another wonderful Luminaria.

In tough economic times, it can be a challenge to have a positive outlook. But at WCW, we believe it is impossible to have negative thoughts while living in a state of gratitude. Even a small gesture of gratefulness and support can make a difference in someone’s life.

Thanks to the efforts of Cathy Burnham, Kelly McCoy and Alice Kinahan, a hugely successful Woman’s Day event was held on October 1st. There were 15 women who took time out of their busy schedules to present workshops ranging from Tai Chi and Meditation to Living in the Now and Herbal Medicine Chest.

We fill up our days with jobs, obligations and appointments and sometimes forget to put ourselves on that “to do” list. I have found the perfect solution…the annual WCW Women’s Weekend!

Even after belonging to WCW for more than 10 years, I am continuously surprised at how close a group of women can get in just two short hours. We start as a group of strangers and end feeling like we’ve known one another forever. It’s magical.
